Five Valley area teams will have their chance to win a Los Angeles City Section basketball championship this weekend.
El Camino Real is in the glamour event, facing Los Angeles Westchester in the boys' Division I final. ECR (28- 2), which won the Division II championship last year, is playing in its first Division I title game. The Conquistadors have won 22 consecutive games since their last loss to Los Angeles Brentwood on Dec. 8. Westchester (27-6) has won City 10 titles, the last one in 2010.
The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Kennedy (27-6) will try to replace El Camino Real as the boys' Division II champion. The Cougars face Gardena (16- 13) at Los Angeles Roybal Learning Center at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 1.
Poly (20-7) has rebounded from an 11-17 record a year ago, and can cap its big year by winning the boys' Division III championship. Los Angeles Hamilton (15-14) stands in the way. The Yankees had lost their last four of their last five regular season games in the loaded Western League, but have won four straight en route to the final.
The game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Granada Hills (21-8), which upset Monroe in the girls Division II semifinals, takes on Westchester (27-7) for the championship. The game is Friday, March 1, at Roybal Learning Center.
Reseda (20-5) has been dominant in the girls' Division III bracket, winning its three previous playoff games by an average of 25.3 points. Eagle Rock (20-5) will try to spoil the Regent's title hopes. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
