San Fernando Police Department officers shut down a marijuana growing operation discovered in the 800 block of Arroyo Avenue.

Lt. Nichole Hanchett, SFPD Detective Bureau commander, said officers were responding to a burglar alarm on Aug. 7 when they saw a door had been forced opened. After entering the building, investigators did not find any burglary suspects but found dozens of growing marijuana  plants.

Hanchett said detectives were notified and a warrant was obtained. Once back in the building, Hanchett said, authorities seized 243 mature marijuana plants, power supply equipment, lights and fans. Total value of the evidence collected was estimated at $25,000.

Members of the City Code Enforcement and Public Works assisted police, Hanchett said. She added the investigation continues.
