Monroe (4-0) is off to a great start. But now the Vikings step up in class, opening up East Valley League play against defending league champion Arleta.

The Mustangs are coming off a bye. That’s given Arleta (2-1) two weeks to chew on a close loss to Roosevelt of Los Angeles; it is eager to return to winning and re-establish itself as the team to beat in the East Valley.

Monroe is coming off a victory against Belmont. Vikings quarterback Luis Dorame, a senior,  has had a hot hand early, passing for 1,303 yards and 11 touchdowns in the first four games. His top receiver has been David Flores, a senior, with 18 catches for 301 yards and three touchdowns.

Arleta quarterback Johnathan Porter, a senior, has thrown for 710 yards and eight touchdowns.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Arleta.
