Canoga Park High School students Isis Argueta and Alan Hernandez won first place today in the 9th-10th grade category of the Wright Stuff Glider Competition during the 10th Annual Boeing Day and ECST Open House at Cal State L.A.

 

California State University, Los Angeles and the Boeing Company held the  10th Annual Boeing Day and College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology (ECST) Open House on Saturday, Oct. 18.  

The event provides students with an inside view of CSULA’s College of ECST,  creates their awareness to opportunities in the fields of engineering, computer science and technology, and engages them in interactive activities and projects with professionals from Boeing. 

The firm’s chief technology officer, John Tracy, is an active Cal State L.A. graduate who received a master’s degree in physics from the University in 1981.

 Canoga Park High School students Isis Argueta and Alan Hernandez won first place in the 9th-10th grade category of the Wright Stuff Glider Competition, while San Gabriel High School students Brian Dam and Anthony Huyhn won first place in the 11th-12th grade category. Students from the following high schools also participated in the competition: Annenberg, Bell, Bloomfield, Burton Tech, Collins Family, Eagle Rock, Franklin, Gabrielino, Lincoln, Maya Angelou, and STEM Academy of Boyle Heights. 

Students from various LAUSD Middle schools had the opportunity to tour  the campus engineering labs and built  mini solar cars.  

The goal of the Cal State L.A.-Boeing partnership is to build a pipeline of engineers starting with middle school and high school students through the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Schools Program at Cal State L.A.
