ROSEMEAD (CNS) — High school seniors have until Feb. 1 to apply for the 2014-15 Edison Scholars Program, which offers $1.2 million in scholarships to students planning to pursue college studies in science, technology, engineering or math fields.

Thirty scholarships valued at $40,000 each and paid over four years will be awarded to high school seniors who either live in or attend public or private high schools in Southern California Edison’s service area.

Applicants must have a 2.8 GPA or better. Students from low-income families and underserved communities are especially encouraged to apply, according to SCE.

Since 2006, SCE’s parent company, Edison International, has awarded nearly $4 million in scholarships to 460 Edison Scholars.

To apply and to get additional eligibility information, go to www.scholarsapply.org/edisonscholars. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. Feb. 1.

Scholarship recipients will be announced in April and they may also be eligible for summer internships at SCE after completing their second year of college.
