LADWP Drilling

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power is currently drilling three ground water production wells with diesel-powered equipment inside their Mission Wells facility, with the construction site entry point at Bleeker Street and Havana Avenue, stretching to Astoria Avenue. The new wells will be installed in the area of the facility north of Genoa Street. Sylmar residents have complained of noise and strong fumes from the project, as work goes on both day and night. Each well will be drilled one at a time, and each construction would take an estimated 4-5 weeks to complete. LADWP spokesman Albert Rodriguez said the project had to be worked around the clock “to maintain the stability of the boreholes.” LADEP officials do not expect the construction to affect water or power service “unless unforeseen circumstances require a service interruption.”
