The engineer of Metrolink Ventura County Line Train 102 that was involved in a vehicle collision on Tuesday, February 24 died Tuesday, March 3. The train collided with an unoccupied truck on the tracks near the Rice Avenue rail crossing in Oxnard, Calif.
The engineer, who was an employee of Amtrak, had worked in the rail industry for more than 40 years. He was the longest tenured engineer among Metrolink operators. The engineer, Glen Steele was described as an “exceptionally nice guy,” by close friends. .
“The entire Metrolink family is deeply saddened by the loss of this dedicated and hardworking railroader,” said Sam Joumblat, Metrolink’s interim chief executive officer. “Everyone associated with Metrolink extends our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and co-workers. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.”
The incident is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.
