SAN FERNANDO (CNS) – A 37-year-old man who pleaded no contest to kidnapping a 3-year-old girl by reaching through a window in her family’s Newhall apartment was sentenced Monday, April 13, to five years in prison.
On Jan. 8, Ethan Odom of Saugus approached the residence in the 24200 block of Arch Street from an alley, removed a screen from a window and grabbed the toddler, prosecutors said.
An older girl in the room started screaming, alerting adults in the house who called 911. The toddler’s father and uncle went in search of the 3-year-old and soon found her in the arms of the suspect, who was arrested by sheriff’s deputies. The girl was unharmed.
“It appears there is no relation between the suspect and the 3-year-old or her family,” a deputy said shortly after Odom’s arrest.
About an hour before grabbing the 3-year-old, Odom tried to lure a 9-year-old away from her mother, sheriff’s detectives said.
Odom was convicted of receiving stolen property in 2011, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
