San Fernando Valley resident, Olivia Garcia, a student attending St. Genevieve High School in Panorama City was chosen as one of more than 200 students from across the nation to take part in the 2015 Bank of America Student Leaders Program. Garcia was awarded an eight-week paid internship at the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank and a week-long leadership summit in Washington D.C.
Garcia, an incoming senior at St. Genevieve High School was chosen as a student leader for her passion for helping others. With more than 180 hours of community service with Loaves & Fishes, Women Wonder Writers and the Anti-Defamation League, she has demonstrated her passion for improving her community.
Wrapping up her summer internship at the Boys and Girls Club of Burbank this month, she had the opportunity to work in several different departments of the nonprofit and learn more about how nonprofits operate to address community issues.
“Early employment is a critical stepping stone on the pathway to financial security, yet young people face a number of challenges in finding job opportunities today,” said Raul A. Anaya, Los Angeles market president, Bank of America. “These internships give teens in our community the chance to develop important workforce skills while earning what for many will be their first paycheck.”
She joined more than 200 other Student Leaders from around the country at the week-long leadership summit in Washington, D.C. in July participating in skill-building workshops, a service learning project, sessions to develop better money habits and meetings with Members of Congress.
