Spartans, Hunters in Valley Mission Showdown

Last year Sylmar and Canoga Park were unbeaten in league play and met in the final game of the regular season at Sylmar to decide the Valley Mission title. The Spartans came away with a 34-28 victory.

Here we go again.

On Friday, Nov. 6, the Hunters and Spartans determine the league champion. The only difference: this time, Canoga Park is at home.

The regular season finale for both teams could have other ramifications, at least for Canoga Park (6-3, 5-0) where a victory could lock the Hunters into one of the top four slots in the City Section Division II playoffs, which are seeded on Saturday.

A win for Sylmar (7-2, 5-0) still may not move the Spartans up high enough in the Division I standings to open the playoffs at home. But a loss could send them hurtling into the lower depths of the playoff field, meaning they might have to open the post season against one of the top four seeds as a visiting team.

The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Canoga Park High.
