Thousands of Southland residents are still without power following fierce wind and rain storm that brought down trees and utility lines yesterday, (Sun, Jan. 31.) . Residents living in Canoga Park were impacted by power outages in the San Fernando Valley, 873 customers still without power today, (Mon. Feb.1).
A Wind Advisory has been issued for sections of the San Fernando Valley that include the communities of Woodland Hills, Northridge, Burbank and Universal City.
The Wind Advisory will remain in effect until 9:00 p.m. tonight. Northwest winds 20 to 30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH will continue into the evening.
Residents are urged to take caution as the winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with “high profile vehicles,” including vans and trucks. With recent rain and wet soil, more trees are at risk for coming down,. Drivers should use extra caution with strong winds. Watch for downed trees and flying debris and secure all loose outdoor. furniture.
About 23-thousand customers were still without electricity as of early this morning. Southern California Edison officials are also reporting outages throughout their service area.
“Some of the most frequent causes of power outages during rains and windstorms are severely dried out palm fronds, tree branches and other debris fall and make contact or sever power lines. LADWP crews continue to work around the clock to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
LADWP urges all customers to use caution around downed or dangling power wires or poles. Always assume a downed line is still energized. Never touch one. Report any downed power lines immediately by calling the LADWP at 1-800-DIAL-DWP. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911.
