Granada Hills Charter High School received the first of 210 air purifiers that will be installed in all school classrooms and offices. This represents the single largest deployment of air purifiers related to the ongoing issues at the Aliso Canyon facility that has displaced as many as 3,000 residents living in Porter Ranch and surrounding areas.
The school requested the the air purifiers, as well as active carbon filters from the Southern California Gas Company as a safety measure for their students, faculty and staff.
In addition to requesting the air purifiers and filters, school officials said they have also commissioned independent air sampling and is working closely with SCAQMD – The Southern California Air Quality Management District, local and state elected officials and agencies and SoCal Gas to continually monitor the situation.
A statement in a news release issued by the school said, “Although the school has not received any notice of increased or unsafe levels of methane or other compounds in the area of the school, we have chosen to work with SoCal Gas to procure and install the purifiers and filters at the Gas Company’s expense in order to do all that we can to ensure the safety of our campus.”
