Sgt. Edwin Gamez, a retired United States Marine Corps veteran, served over six years in the infantry and served in Iraq during operation Iraqi Freedom. He medically retired from the Marines Corps but, determined to not let life knock him down, he focused on his education. He began his journey at Los Angeles Valley College and transferred to CSUN where, on May 20, he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in communication studies.
“I have learned to survive and succeed in any situation imaginable, whether it be in the trenches in Iraq, in a hospital bed or in a school campus armed with my strong will and the cane I use to walk,” Gamez said. “I have made it, I am here, and I am strong,”
His will to succeed is admirable as Gamez continues on his journey into the Graduate Program at CSUN this upcoming fall.
