Memorial Day ceremonies will be held at the Pioneer Historical Cemetery on Monday, May 30, at 11 a.m. The gates will open to the public at 10 a.m. Among the program events will be a monument dedication to Honoring the five Civil War Veterans who relocated to what is now the Valley after the war. The San Fernando Valley Marine Corps League Detachment 1277 will provide a color guard and rifle salute.
“To me, Memorial Day is to remember our fallen heros, veterans who gave their all for our freedom,” said Sam Castrellon, detachment commandant. “Freedom is not free, and we must pay homage to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
The cemetery is located at 14451 Bledsoe St., in Sylmar. The public is welcome.
