PALMDALE (CNS) — Authorities have identified a 3-year-old boy who drowned in Palmdale.

The boy drowned at 9:45 p.m. on Monday in the 37700 block of 50th Street East, said Deputy Crystal Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Information Bureau.

He was identified as Joshua Boyd of Palmdale, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

“The 3-year-old boy and his mother were attending a party at the location,” Hernandez said. “After the festivities moved to the front of the residence to watch fireworks, the mother of the child noticed her child was missing and began to search for him.”

The mother located her child in the backyard pool, immediately pulled him out and began to render aid until firefighters arrived, she said.

The child was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Hernandez said.

“It is unknown how long the child was in the water before he was discovered,” she said.
