All 26 Los Angeles county YMCAs, as part of the “Get Summer” program are offering free admission at their branches for the month of July for youths age 12-17, giving an estimated 10,000 Angelenos no-cost access to exercise facilities, academic support, enrichment activities, and employment readiness training.

Those interested must first attend a hour-long orientation, offered at any branch on Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; and Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“For the first time, thousands of teenagers can take pilates classes, use the pool, and shoot hoops at no cost to their families,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “High school students can work with tutors at the Y to master all those algebra equations that can be forgotten over summer break. And if a young person is more interested in work experience than workouts, the YMCA is once again answering my call to connect our young people to job opportunities.”

“The commitment of the YMCA, the City, and the District is to make sure every child in L.A. has a meaningful, safe, and enriching summer,” said LAUSD School Board President Steve Zimmer.
