San Fernando Police Department (SFPD) detectives are investigating a shooting between a male pedestrian and another man in a vehicle that left one man wounded.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10 “in the area of Fifth and Arroyo” in Pacoima, SFPD Chief Anthony Vairo said. The officers saw no suspect or victims upon their arrival, but found handgun shell casings and broken glass they believe is from the suspect’s vehicle.
Vairo said after establishing a crime scene perimeter with the help of LAPD, investigators spoke with numerous witnesses who told them of a vehicle traveling westbound on Fifth Street. “The driver made contact with the pedestrian. Words were exchanged, then gunfire was exchanged” between both men, he said.
The chief said the pedestrian was not injured, and was last seen running eastbound on Fifth Street — which turns into Herrick Avenue — toward LA county. “He was last seen in that area jumping through houses,” Vairo said.
Later that evening, a man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound went to the Providence Holly Cross Medical Center for treatment. Investigators spoke with the victim “who was not very cooperative,” Vairo said. “He gave us some information, but not much.”
Police received information that the pedestrian may have entered a bus at Glenoaks Boulevard and Arroyo Street. An individual was questioned, Vairo said, but turned out not to be the suspect police were looking for. Police also spoke with another person of interest at the perimeter, but also determined that person was not a suspect.
Police have not yet released any names or description for the suspect they are searching for.
