Native Americans, including members of the Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians in San Fernando, joined with Valley area residents and others to enjoy the first annual “Indigenous People’s Day Celebration Festival,” held at Recreation Park on Oct. 15. Speakers talked of their support with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe against the Dakota Access Pipeline Project after a federal court rejected the request to halt its construction. The Sioux maintain the pipeline would destroy sacred grounds as well as threaten their water supply and environment.
