VAN NUYS (CNS) — A man who tried to kill his ex-girlfriend with a machete was sentenced Monday, Nov. 14, to more than 12 years in state prison.

Travis Anthony Hunter, 23, previously pleaded no contest to burglary and corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant in connection with the July 18 attack in Agoura Hills.

Hunter broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home and attacked her with a machete while she was in bed, according to prosecutors. He was convicted in 2015 of a domestic violence attack on the same woman, who had obtained a protective order against him.

Hunter was also convicted of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury in 2012 and 2013.

His 12-year, four-month sentence was handed down by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Kellogg.
