Assemblywoman Patty Lopez marked her last day holding state office with a lunch at her district office among local residents. When asked to take her photo, she insisted it not be taken at her desk but in front of photos she was proud of that reflected the district and her commitment to adult education. As residents dropped in to thank her and wish her well, her staff continued to work. Lopez said she was spending her last day writing a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, urging him to come to California to really understand working immigrants like herself. “Look at me,” Lopez said, “I’m an immigrant.” Lopez said that she is looking forward to continuing her work in the community as a private citizen but wasn’t ruling out another run for public office.
