Gov. Jerry Brown administers the oath of office to Xavier Becerra, making him California’s 33rd Attorney and the first Latino in state history to hold this position.  Becerra, 58, was Brown’s pick to succeed U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris and will have to officially run for the influential post in 2018. Becerra stepped down from his seat in Congress last November after serving in that seat for 24 years. He has vowed to protect the state and be a line of defense against President Donald Trump and his new administration should federal proposals conflict with state initiatives on climate change, health care, immigration and criminal justice.
