A preliminary hearing was held for the accused killer of Sandra Duran on Tuesday, March 14, in the San Fernando Courthouse.”
Estaurdo Alvarado, 45, of Lake View Terrace, was arrested after his vehicle crashed into Duran’s car, killing her on Feb. 19 near the corner of Sepulveda Boulevard and Plummer Street in North Hills.
Alvarado, an undocumented immigrant who has a lengthy criminal record, was allegedly speeding away from another accident he was reportedly involved in on streets made slick from rain before crashing into Duran, 42, a mother of two sons, and is suspected of driving under the influence. He faces five felony counts including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
He is due to return to court on April 18. Alvarado currently remains in custody in lieu of bail, set at $2.18 million.
