VAN NUYS (CNS) —Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed an 84-year-old man in Van Nuys.
The crash happened around 9:35 p.m., March 12, on Burbank Boulevard between Tyrone and Sylmar avenues, Officer E. Hansen of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division said.
Vahan Khachatryan died at a hospital, the coroner’s office reported.
Khachatryan was crossing Burbank Boulevard mid-block, where there was no crosswalk, when he was struck in the number 2 westbound lane, Hansen said.
The car was described as a light-colored, possibly silver, four-door sedan, a Honda Civic or similar model.
Khachatryan suffered blunt force trauma injuries and a witness at the scene began CPR until paramedics arrived, police said. He was taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital where he died with several family members and friends at his side, police said.
The crash was the pedestrian’s fault and the driver would not have faced charges if he or she had stopped, Hansen said. Now that driver faces a felony hit-and-run charge.
The vehicle likely sustained front-end damage and possibly a broken windshield, Hansen said.
