There were plenty of newspapers, bottle caps, empty juice boxes and above all, lots of fun, as students from Garden Grove, Bertrand Avenue and Parthenia Street elementary schools took over the red carpet last Friday, May 5 for a special fashion.
The red carpet at Garden Grove Elementary School in Reseda was the place where students modeled unique pieces during the annual Reyclable Materials Fashion and Art Show.
All of the pieces were made from recycled and repurposed materials.
And they got pretty creative as they made dresses, jewelry and other items made entirely from plastic straws, newspaper pages and other recyclable materials.
The Los Angeles United School District joined forces with the trash collecting company Waste Management to host the special show, which brought plenty of applause and cheers from the students gathered at the school yard.
This time the trash was not in the bins, but on display for everyone to admire.
The purpose of the show was to raise awareness about the importance of reusing and recycling materials and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.
