LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Unified School District will offer summer programs at select elementary, middle, and high schools. School sites have begun enrollment which will continue until summer programming begins. Additionally, L.A. Unified will provide families with a variety of age appropriate links to online Internet resources designed to keep youngsters academically and actively engaged during the summer months.
High School 2017 Summer Term
Students enrolled in District high schools during the 2017 spring semester and who need to recover credits for D or F grades are eligible to enroll in up to two classes at any of the 72 high school Summer Term sites. The program will be held from June 22 through July 27 with no school held on July 3 and July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Classes will be held daily from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Meals will be served during a half-hour nutrition break between classes. For a list of participating schools, please go http://bit.ly/HSTerm17. New this year, eligible recently arrived immigrant high school students will participate in a college awareness program at select schools throughout the district.

Academic Support at Select Elementary and Middle Schools
A special 2017 CORE Extended Learning Opportunity Summer Program will be available at select elementary, and middle schools. This program is designed to help children in elementary grades meet grade-level standards in English language arts and English language arts or mathematics standards for Middle School grade students. The program will be held June 20 to July 19 from 8:00 a.m.-11:50 a.m with a meal provided during or after the school day. Student enrollment is based on eligibility, priority, and available space. Summer Pool Program
Summer of 2017 will see the return of the Beyond the Bell Branch Portable Pool Water Safety Program. Since it began in 1963, the Portable Pool Program has been a fixture in summer programming for Beyond the Bell. Aligned with California’s water conservation and recycling initiative, the program will be offered at 16 LAUSD elementary schools with a 4-week rotation at each site. The schools are: Morningside, San Fernando, 186th Street, 54th Street, 6th Avenue, Coldwater Canyon, Grand View Blvd., Harmony, Harrison, Hoover, Loma Vista, Montara, San Antonio,, San Gabriel, Valerio, and Wilmington Park.

Migrant Education Program
Summer School classes for eligible students in grades Pre-k through 8th grade will be offered. The instructional focus will build reading comprehension and writing skills. Eligible students in grades 9th – 12 may enroll in Cyber High to “catch up” on credits. Classes will be held at Harmony Elementary and Stevenson Middle School from June 19 to July 18 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with a meal provided during the school day. iConnect Beyond The Bell
Thirty-five educational institutions are joining Beyond the Bell to raise academic performance and close the achievement gap by exposing students to a rich and diverse learning environment. iConnect will also provide teachers, parents and students access to a wealth of educational tools and resources, both face-to-face and online. Comprehensive Summer Enrichment Programs
The District’s Beyond the Bell Branch will operate Summer Enrichment Programs at more than 200 elementary and middle schools during the summer vacation period. The programs will provide daily activities Monday through Friday, beginning June 19. Meals will be served. Each program will include three components—academic, enrichment and recreation. The District’s Beyond the Bell Branch will provide a variety of online resources for students, which will be accessible from the Beyond the Bell Branch website.
