The World premiere of The Sweetheart Deal currently running at The Los Angeles Theatre Company — is set in 1970, a time of organizing in the fields and in cities for the United Farm Workers, “La Causa,” and “El Movimiento” that was the foundation for Chicano civil rights movement. Writer/director Diane Rodriguez traces some of the early history of the UFW through the eyes of a married couple who volunteer to leave their comfortable middle class life in San Jose to volunteer for El Malcriado, the underground newspaper.
