LAFD Urges You to Celebrate the Fourth of July Safely

The Los Angeles Fire Department reminds you that all fireworks, even the so-called ‘safe and sane’ variety remain illegal in the City of Los Angeles.

Those who use, possess or transport any type of firework in Los Angeles may be subject to criminal prosecution — or worse yet, painful and debilitating injury.

Why Risk Tragedy?

Attend a public fireworks show — the safest and most enjoyable way to celebrate our nation’s independence. Illegal fireworks cause an estimated 18,500 fires in the country each year. Sparklers alone cause one fourth of hospital emergency room visits on the holiday alone. People handling fireworks risk losing their fingers and hands, and cause serious injuries often to eyes, ears and other body limbs.

One free public works display in the San Fernando Valley will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Church at 19700 Rinaldi Street in Porter Ranch at 9 p.m..

Other public shows in the Valley include:

— Hansen Dam Park and Recreation Center, 11770 Foothill Blvd., Lake View Terrace. The Dam opens at 10 a.m.;

— Valencia Town Center, 26735, Circle Drive, Santa Clarita, 9:15 p.m.;

— Rioux Memorial Park, 26233 Faulkner Drive, Stevenson Ranch, 9 p.m.

— Warner Park, 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd., Woodland Hills, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
