LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A man standing on railroad tracks on the Los Angeles- City of San Fernando border and wearing headphones was slightly injured today when he fell on rocks adjacent to the tracks as a freight train approached him.

Paramedics sent to the 11300 block of North San Fernando Road shortly after 8 a.m. took the man, who is about 60, to a hospital,  The San Fernando Police Department had first reported that he had been hit by the train. 

LAFD spokeswoman Amy Bastman said the man apparently was listening to music or other programming via headphones, with his back to the advancing train, and did not hear the warnings.

“It appears that at the last moment he got out of the way,” she said, adding that he was not struck by the train as authorities originally thought.

Some Metrolink service was affected by track closures while an investigation was conducted.
