The El Cariso Golf Course in Sylmar is hosting its Fall New Golfer Day, a free clinic open to junior golfers of all ages and all skill levels on Sept. 30 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“We are excited about the opportunity to sponsor this complimentary clinic and bring new players to the game,” said Rich Carlson, Junior Academy Director. “For anyone who has ever wanted to be introduced to try the game, our Fall New Golfer Day provides a fun, non-intimidating environment to be introduced to this lifelong sport.”

Carlson said course officials are looking at ways to attract new, potential players to the junior academy here.

“Cariso’s never had junior golf program,” he said. “During the summer LA county county parks and recreation has provided lessons, but it has no relationship with our course here. So we have started that process going. We’re trying to give kids something else to do.”

The two-hour clinic will feature stations covering the following:

• Full Swing: Participants will learn full swing basics including proper alignment, stance.

• Short Game:  Attendees will benefit from a presentation on chipping and putting.

Rich said El Cariso hopes to sign up 30-40 kids for the clinic. He said several instructors will be on hand to teach, and that the students will rotate between the instructor so everyone can learn both the proper swing and the other elements of golf.

Academy officials are planning to offer introductory clinics on a monthly basis.

Clubs and golf balls will be available at the course.

There will be a signup sheet at the course, located at 13100 Eldridge Street in Sylmar. Interested parties can also call Richard Carlson at (818) 367-8742.
