LOS ANGELES (CNS) — The official cause of rocker Tom Petty’s death, which came hours after he suffered what his manager said was cardiac arrest, has been listed as “deferred,” authorities said Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Petty, 66, died at UCLA Medical Center at about 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 2 after he was brought there by paramedics from his home in Malibu.
An autopsy has been conducted, and the cause of death was listed as “deferred,” said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter, who declined to elaborate.
According to Tony Dimitriades, longtime man-ager for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Petty suffered cardiac arrest early on the morning of Oct. 2 and was taken to the hospital, where he died peacefully, surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.
Petty had just wrapped up a 40th anniversary tour on Sept. 25 with the last of three sold-out shows at the Hollywood Bowl.
