Eagles and Mustangs Get Another Early View of Each Other

The football game between Arleta High and Eagle Rock High on Friday, Aug. 24, is intriguing in part because the positions for both teams have switched.

Last year the visiting Eagles were a City Division II team that pounced all over the Mustangs — then in Division I — with a 57-22 victory at home. Eagle Rock would also win the Northern League and reach the Division II semifinals before losing an epic overtime battle against Cleveland, 55-54.

This year Eagle Rock has been moved up to Division I, and Arleta — which won the East Valley League but was ousted in the first round of the playoffs by San Fernando — went down to Division II. The rematch will be at Arleta High.

Both teams had little trouble in their season openers. Arleta (1-0) easily got by Los Angeles High, 42-6, while Eagle Rock rolled up South Gate High, 50-14.

Friday’s kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
