Verdugo Hills and Grant are the only prep teams still unbeaten in the East Valley League. And the Dons are chasing their first league championship since 2012.
But to do so, they will have to get past a perennial league contender in Arleta, which visits the Dons on Friday, Oct. 12.
The Mustangs (5-3, 3-1) already have a league loss — to Grant, back on Sept. 14 — and can ill afford another as they start jockeying for Division II playoff positioning. Arleta is coming off a 32-16 victory against Monroe.
The Dons (4-3, 3-0) are coming off their bye week, which gave them some extra time to prepare for Arleta. They hope to keep their winning streak going; it stands at three games.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Verdugo Hills High School.
