Pronghorn behind the scenes tour.

The Los Angeles Zoo has launched two Wild Adventure tours— “Behind the Scenes” and “Keys to the Zoo” — giving guests an inside look into animal care, conservation, and life at the Zoo.

Wild Adventures “Behind the Scenes” is a fun and informative peek into how the Zoo cares for each of the 1,400 animals and 270 species who live on the grounds. Guests can learn about nutritional needs and food preparation, as well as what goes into designing a natural habitat that promotes overall well-being, conservation efforts, and more.

The Behind the Scenes tour takes place on weekends at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., and 1:30 to 3 p.m. and will include a visit to two different locations and explores a myriad of diverse and stimulating topics to educate and entertain.

Tour themes include:

• Pioneering Conservation

Learn about innovative research and groundbreaking new inventions in conservation and preservation that shape the care of critters large and small.

• Cats and Dogs

Explore the wild counterparts to our at-home companions with visits to the Zoo’s resident felines and canids, and discover just how different cats and dogs really are.

• What’s for Lunch

Explore the meal-time rituals of two very different species and how their dining etiquette plays a critical role in the health of their environment.

• From Rescue to Ambassador

Explore the untold stories of some of the remarkable rescue animals that call the Los Angeles Zoo home. Learn about their amazing journeys from animals in need to animal ambassadors and the partnerships that make it all possible.

• Feeding a Zoo

Learn about a variety of eating habits that help animals live their best lives by selecting the best fuel, from fish popsicles to krill smoothies and everything in between.

• Evolving Habitats

Discover the science behind the Zoo’s vines, sand, ponds, and plants that the 270 species of animals require for their homes, from the surface they walk on to the heights of the trees they can climb.

The Wild Adventures Keys tour gives visitors unprecedented access to the Zoo’s conservation and animal care efforts through one of its Animal Care experts.

These tailored tours will provide insight into the most important and newsworthy animals sharing stories on conservation, breeding, and care. The Keys tour takes place on the second Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and includes a continental breakfast at the Sea Life Cliffs viewing window from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. During the tour, participants will visit three unique locations while focusing on a species or theme, including mammals, birds, and animal behaviors. The tour costs $150 per person plus Zoo general admission.
