Most of the damaged or destroyed property from the strip mall fire in Sylmar was moved away from the other operating businesses.

SYLMAR (CNS) – Firefighters extinguished a greater-alarm blaze that damaged part of an L-shaped strip mall in Sylmar on Monday. Dec. 10.

The fire was reported at 3:47 a.m. at 12777 North San Fernando Road and extinguished in about two hours and 50 minutes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were forced out of the interior and off of the roof on one section of the building because the structural integrity of the roof over the unit where the fire burned was poor, and a section of the roof eventually collapsed, the LAFD reported.

Mop-up work is continuing in Sylmar. The blaze primarily destroyed a restaurant on one end of the mall  and a marijuana dispensary was also damaged.

More than 100 firefighters were assigned to the blaze. The majority of the businesses were saved, LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.
