LA Councilmember Monica Rodriguez

LA Councilmember Monica Rodriguez has been appointed Chair of the City’s Public Safety Committee, becoming the first Latina and the first woman in fourteen years to serve in this position.

She represents the 7th Council District in the Northeast San Fernando Valley which includes the neighborhoods of Sylmar, Mission Hills, Pacoima, Lake View Terrace, Sunland-Tujunga, North Hills, Shadow Hills and La Tuna Canyon.

“I am humbled and incredibly honored to be appointed Chair of this important committee and will continue to fight to assure that every family feels secure in their neighborhood,” said Rodriguez in released statement. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to spearhead Citywide public safety efforts to increase resources for emergency preparedness and improve the quality of life for all Angelenos.”

The City’s Public Safety Committee oversees policy regarding fire and police resources, emergency services, crime, and quality of life. 

“The Councilwoman will continue to fight for families in the Northeast San Fernando Valley and prioritize public safety efforts through spearheading emergency preparedness and resiliency efforts, securing a new fire station in Sylmar, implementing traffic safety measures throughout the District, and increasing resources” for fire and police, the news release stated.
