A 58-year-old San Fernando Valley stroke victim who was told he would never walk again but recently completed a 1K race, had an emotional reunion with the medical team that saved his life to celebrate the accomplishment.
A year ago, Herald Hirsch had suffered a hemorrhagic stroke due to a brain tumor, which left him unable to breathe, eat and walk on his own. Two months of treatment (including brain surgery), followed by physical occupational rehabilitation at the Dignity Health – Northridge Hospital Medical Center enabled Hirsch to recover enough to participate and complete 1K of the second annual Channel Islands Marine and Wildlife “Fins, Flippers and Fun Run” held Jan. 20.
On March 28, Hirsch walked back into the hospital to reconnect with the medical team that facilitated his recovery — Danny Arzanipour, MD, Rehabilitation physician, and the rehab care team of Kayla Chalfant, Physical Therapist; Renee Gauthier, Occupational Therapist; and Cindy Morales, Speech Therapist.
