Dignity Health Northridge Hospital Medical Center Hosts ‘Hope Soars’ Reunion

The Northridge Hospital Medical Center (NHMC) recently hosted more than a hundred survivors at the Leavey Cancer Center in recognition of National Cancer Survivor Day.

“Living life well after surviving cancer and the difficulty of treatment is something worth celebrating,” said Jill Dickson, director of the Leavey Cancer Center, at the May 31 event.

An afternoon tea party was combined with personal journeys, reunions between former patients and their compassionate care team, as well as a special community quilt project. Guests wrote messages of hope on fabric squares that will be quilted together and displayed in the Cancer Center for future patients and their families to see.

As cancer survivor Mari Bedrossian noted, “Opportunities like this tea party are helpful to the healing and recovery process in knowing that you are never alone, that others are going through difficult times too.”

National Cancer Survivor’s Day, observed this year on Sunday, June 2, acknowledges survivors while providing inspiration for those newly-diagnosed and offering support and resources for the community.
