Students attending Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) schools will begin the 2019-20 academic year on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Here’s a listing of tips for students and their families on where to find needed information and necessary listings to get answers to frequently asked questions:
The LAUSD 2019-20 school calendar on the district website lists all holiday breaks (beginning with Admissions Day on Aug. 30 and Labor Day on Sept. 2).
Some magnet schools still have openings. You can learn of those still enrolling students via the district’s or the school’s website to learn when classes begin and end each day. You can also call a school’s main office directly.
Make sure your child has his or her required immunizations. The district’s Parent’s Guide on Immunizations on its website can give families with students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade more detailed information in both English and Spanish.
You should have already received a letter if your child rides a district bus to school. You can also call (800) LA-BUSES (1-800-522-8737).
Still in need of a backpack or school supplies? There are still plenty of outlets offering free backpacks and supplies. Olivio at Mission Hills, located at 10310 Sepulveda Boulevard, will give away backpacks from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, as part of its 1st Annual Dayspring Back to School Giveback. You can find more information about other giveaways on the district website.
The Parent Student Handbook (2018-19) on the district website can provide up-to-date information on the latest school policies.
The LAUSD academic year ends on June 12, 2020.
