Mike Trujillo, age 90, passed away peacefully at his home in Arleta, surrounded by his 6-children at his bedside on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. Memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2019, at St. John Baptist De Salle Church in Granada Hills at 11am.
Mike was born in Hatch, New Mexico on September 29, 1928, to Juanita (Trujillo) and Frederico Trujillo. His parents passed away when he was a very young man. He was the youngest of his siblings; Mariano, Aaron, Manual, Carmen and Abelina, which all have preceded him in death.
Mike married Helen Carreras in 1948, and had six children; Viola, Patsy, Vanessa, Michael (Benita), Fred (Maribel), and Steven (Vivian). Mike and Helen both worked on the family cotton farm in Hatch, New Mexico until 1956, when they moved the family to California in the San Fernando Valley.
Mike joined his brothers Aaron and Manual, working at various construction companies until he learned the trade in construction. In 1964, he established Trujillo Grading & Paving Company in Pacoima, California (a construction business). Trujillo Grading & Paving, Inc., is well known in the City and County of Los Angeles and continues to prosper after 55-years, thanks to his eldest son, best friend and number one side-kick, Michael who labored alongside his dad in the family business (for 45-years).
Mike was a very generous man to his family, friends and anyone who knew him. He expected his small construction crew to work hard, complete the job thoroughly and be respectful to clients. Mike was very active in the community and served on the Board of Directors with the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley. He financially supported various little league sports and donated construction work to various organizations in the City of Los Angeles.
Mike was a great dad and would do anything to help his children (if needed). He had 14-grandchildren, 19-great grandchildren, 1-great-great grandchild and many nephews and nieces. He will be deeply missed and we will eternally carry his memory in our hearts forever.
