An early big-time battle is brewing this week between Southern Section Division I powers Sierra Canyon High and Oaks Christian High.
Both programs have championship pedigrees — Sierra Canyon is the defending section Division 1-A titleholder, Oaks Christian ran off six consecutive section titles in the 2000s — and both expect to be playoff contenders in 2019. The outcome of the game could help shape the eventual postseason positioning.
The Trailblazers (2-0) are coming off 37-12 victory against Lawndale High. The Lions (1-1) were battered by Grace Brethren High of Simi Valley, 54-28.
The kickoff is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village.
