Two teams still sorting their way through the 2019 season under first-year coaches find themselves hurtling in opposite directions.
Kennedy High, under Troy Cassidy, is off to a 2-0 start with victories against Verdugo Hills High and Monroe High. On the other hand Granada Hills High, under Bucky Brooks, is struggling, scoring just 18 points in three losses to Saugus High, West Ranch High of Valencia, and Palisades High of Pacific Palisades.
But the Highlanders should be getting more comfortable in their new offensive and defensive schemes, and are now facing an opponent that is closer to them in talent. A win on Friday, Sept. 13, would create some equilibrium in Granada Hills’ season.
Meanwhile, Kennedy is eager to continue building momentum toward the start of the Valley Mission League play next week.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Granada Hills Charter High School.
