Northridge Hospital Medical Center (NHMC) and its Leavey Cancer Center announced the installation of a community quilt. Dozens of cancer survivors recently attended a special reunion and were asked to write messages of hope on fabric squares that have been woven into a quilt for the Cancer Center. According to Jill Dickson, Senior Director of Cancer Services, “The ‘Hope Soars’ quilt celebrates all cancer survivors and their journeys. The four life-sustaining elements are depicted by the birds and the butterflies in the quilt, which will be placed in the Cancer Center for all patients, their families, hospital staff and physicians to enjoy for years to come.”
Lovingly designed and hand-crafted by NHMC’s Radiation Therapist & Clinical Navigator, Hasmukhben Amarasekera, the quilt represents the qualities of hope, healing, and courage in celebration of all cancer survivors past, present and future. One survivor’s message reads, “Cancer taught me how to love big, live bigger, and dream large.”
