The annual "Christmas in the Valley” gift giveaway will take place on Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Winnetka Recreation Center.

The El Salvador Foundation is hosting its 19th annual “Christmas in the Valley” gift giveaway on Sunday, Dec. 22.

Thousands of toys, clothing, hygiene products, kitchen supplies and other gifts will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Winnetka Recreation Center, located at 8401 Winnetka Avenue. Families will also receive free food baskets, health and dental check-ups, cell phones, and other gifts.

“We see homelessness all across our city, poverty and hunger in our communities,” said event organizer Carlos Zaragoza. “The holidays can be a difficult time for families and individuals who are struggling.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from. As an immigrant who has received so much from this country, I want to bring a little joy and hope to others who may be living through difficult times.”

Participating vendors and gift sponsors include Northridge Hospital, Disneyland, Vallarta Supermarkets, Target, the California Highway Patrol, LA Fire Department, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA Councilmember Bob Blumenfield.
