On Friday, Nov. 13, President-elect Joe Biden appointed Cecilia Muñoz to join his transition team.

During the Obama-Biden administration, over three million families were separated and Cecilia Muñoz, who was a top immigration adviser, consistently defended these decisions and attempted to justify the separation of families and shut out advocates nationwide.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Why would the Biden administration onboard Cecilia Muñoz, someone who vehemently defended deportations, family separations and essentially built the machinery for the Trumps all-out assault on immigrants?

There is a sense of amnesia that seems to have infected Democrats and it is extremely concerning to see the same actors who handed the keys over to the Trump administration take the reins once again.

We must not forget that Cecilia Muñoz was not an advocate, but rather shut many of us out of the conversations and sold out our communities for political gain. When we fought for our parents and other undocumented people, she failed us and no amount of rebranding or book sales can cover up the shame of selling out immigrants.

This does not instill confidence in the new administration, but rather quite the opposite.

In a sign of good faith, community leaders nationwide should insist that Cecilia Muñoz stay away and allow someone who actually cares about immigrants to join the administration.
