As the regular season starts winding down, the remaining football league games become more precious in unexpected ways.
Case in point: the Mission League matchup between Chaminade and Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 15.
This initially only had the makings of a “trap” game for Chaminade. Notre Dame (1-6, 0-2) is struggling, having lost six straight since its season opening victory over Pasadena. But Chaminade’s unexpected loss last week at Gardena Serra has left the Eagles (4-2, 1-1) vulnerable in the league race, staring up at three teams ahead of them that are still unbeaten in league play. And Chaminade plays two of them back-to-back — Bishop Amat High of La Puente next week, and Alemany on Oct. 29.
Simply put, the Eagles have all the pressure on them while the Knights are free to just play, and try to create more havoc in the Mission League race.
The kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Chaminade High School.
