City of San Fernando Police have arrested a 23-year-old transient and booked him on suspicion of murder following the discovery of an unidentified male Tuesday morning who died from a gunshot wound, Chief Fabian Valdez said.
Valdez said Isaiah Jeremiah Swell was contacted Tuesday afternoon by police near Brand Boulevard and San Fernando Road and found him to be in possession of a firearm. Swell was arrested and taken into custody, initially on charges related to the firearm.
Further investigation by police and LA County Sheriff’s Department homicide investigators, Valdez said, led the charges to be upgraded to suspicion of murder. Swell remains in custody in lieu of $2 million bail.
San Fernando police were contacted Tuesday morning by Los Angeles Fire Department responders seeking assistance with a victim of a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of Truman Avenue, near First Street. Upon their arrival, officers viewed a male victim on the Mission City Bike Path.
The victim was deceased. Valdez said police are currently withholding the victim’s identification pending notification of next of kin.
“I am very proud of the members of the San Fernando Police Department for their hard work and commitment to protect our community,” Valdez said in a released statement. “This arrest is a testament to the resolve our Department demonstrates daily in fighting crime. It also showcases the positive partnership the San Fernando Police Department has with the Los Angeles County Sheriff.
“I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Unit for their assistance and commitment to protecting the members of our community.”
