The San Fernando Police Department is asking for the community’s help in identifying the person or person(s) responsible for starting a series of fires on the bike path on the 1300 block of 1st Street.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday, SFPD received reports of multiple fires along the bike path in the area behind the C. A. Schroeder, Inc. building. A total of 10 small fires were set along the bike path, between Maclay Avenue and Orange Grove Avenue, using debris and leaves.
The fires were extinguished by firefighters. There was no reported damage to any property nearby except for the grass.
Police are unsure who or why the fires were set, but SFPD spokesperson Lt. Irwin Rosenberg said it was evident that it was deliberate, “these fires were arson-related and that someone set multiple fires.”
An investigation is underway. Police are reviewing video footage from nearby businesses in search of a suspect. The SFPD is asking residents for any information that could lead to the individual responsible for starting the fires.
“We want to do all we can to try and see if we can identify whoever created [these] fires,” Rosenberg said.
Anyone who has information, can contact the SFPD Detective Division at (818) 898-1256.
