The regional infiltration system being installed under the baseball field at Rec Park in the city of San Fernando is now at the 70% mark with the installation of the concrete infiltration modules nearing completion.
These concrete forms will create a basin that will collect and remove impurities and convey back into the underground system, approximately 130 million gallons of rainwater runoff per year according to Matt Baumgardner, director of public works for the city of San Fernando. This is rainwater that would otherwise have run into the ocean. Instead, it will provide water to about 1,000 households and 75 businesses in LADWP’s service area shared Baumgardner.
The estimated $11.2 million project began construction on April 4 and is on schedule to be completed in April 2023 making the baseball field available again for residents to use.
