Los Angeles City Council member Nury Martinez was honored by Comision Femenil/SFV as a “Mujer de Corazon” at its Gala on Oct. 18.   Council member Martinez, a former president of Comision Femenl, was recognized for her leadership on the campaign to set the minimum wage for hotel workers at major hotels in Los Angeles at 5.25.


The Mujeres de Corazon Gala honors Latinas in the Los Angeles area who have made major contributions to improve the quality of life of Latinas and their families.   The Gala was held at the Odyssey restaurant on Friday, Oct. 10, and was attended by 350 persons.  Superior Court Judge Mildred “Millie” Escobedo was the keynote speaker and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors member Zev Yaroslavasky was honored for his suppport of Comision Femenil.
