SUN VALLEY (CNS) — Meaner than a junkyard cat?
Dozens of junkyard cats were looking for new homes today as they face a Dec. 31 eviction date from their usual haunt at a Sun Valley junkyard that’s been featured in numerous movies and TV shows.
Aadlen Brothers Auto Wrecking, or U Pick Parts junkyard, at 11590 Tuxford St., may be Hollywood’s favorite junkyard for filming. It’s been featured in numerous productions, including Supergirl, Dexter, NCIS: Los Angeles, as well as older hits Adam-12 and ChiPs, and it will be shutting down after more than a half-century due to worsening economic conditions, according to officials.
While a 1973 pop song by Jim Croce, “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown,” featured a line about “meaner than a junkyard dog,” this company referred to their junkyard felines as “adorable.”
Thirty cats are being evicted, although some have already found homes, according to a rescue group’s Facebook page.
“Throughout all of the filming, hiding in the 261 acres of wrecks and oil, were the cats that had nowhere else to live,” according to a company statement.
“A rescue team has been trying to raise funds and find homes for the cats who will lose their only shelter just as the worst El Nino in over a decade hits Los Angeles,” the company statement read. “The surrounding industrial area, bordered by the busy 5 freeway, will provide no place for them to try and survive. Local rescues are full and the city animal shelters are overflowing.”
